One misty morning while out for a jog
I happened upon a sad lonely dog,
He was thin and very glum,
It made me wonder from where he’d come

At the corner I stopped for a snack
thinking he would be gone when I came back
there he sat waiting for me
I had no idea what a good friend he would be.

He looked at the food I held in my hand
with a longing look that I understand
I gave him a piece and he gulped it down He wagged his tail and was running around

I resumed my morning jog
accompanied now by my new found dog
He ran ahead and bounded back
then stood his ground as if to attack.

I felt a hard jab from the back to my side
I was so scared I wanted to hide
my newly claimed pal
curled his lip in a growl

The man who attacked me said give me your money
I was scared stiff and it was not funny
I gave him all that I had to give
all that I care was to continue to live

The dog took a leap
grabbed the man by the arm
I was so worried
that he would be harmed

Then out of the mist came two running men
They came to my aid
I grasped my dog
No longer afraid

I took him home and named him jake
taught him to sit and then how to shake
I love that dog and he loves me
I still sometimes wonder without him where I'd be.

The moral:
If friendship is offered from a dog pet him!
